We Have Exciting News to Share with You!

What’s going on?

Changes! Lots and lots of changes.

What kinda changes are we talking about?

We are not quite ready to reveal that yet.

We are being sneaky….but not for long!

We promise you will be the first to see!

       arrow

When?

Soon. Very soon!

One week from today!

Wait? What? One week? Yep! In one week we will let you in on all of our changes.

Are we excited?

Absolutely! This is something we have been ready to do for a while and we are finally making it happen.

Has it been easy?

Nope! Not at all.questin-mark

There are times when we second guess everything. We question if we are making the right choices. We wonder if everything looks okay.

There have been some mistakes (ahem…learning opportunities), long nights, and a few arguments.

Yes, we argue. We are a daughter and mother team that work together. Most of the time we get along great. We agree on pretty much everything! Then there are those moments where nothing works and we are both too stubborn to budge. Stubborn, long nights, tired…BOOM. Argument.

Sometimes we have to stop, relook at the situation and solve the problem.
Our mistakes (you know, those learning opportunities) gave us the idea for the three C’s: Caring, Calm, Communication.

We CARE about each other so CALM down and COMMUNICATE.

Sounds dorky, but it works! Okay, okay, back to the excitement!

Everyone! Our reveal is one week away.

ONE WEEK!

We are so passionate about teens knowing they matter! These changes are helping that passion come to life.

See you in a week!

Dear Hope: What Should I Say To My Boyfriend About His Secret

Dear Hope,boyfriend secret
My boyfriend and I have been dating for 8 months. We haven’t had sex yet and we just said I love you to each other. We are both 17, we never argue and we get along great. Everything is perfect except he just told me he was sexually abused when he was younger. He said his parents were very supportive and they took him to counseling. He said he was ok now, but he wanted me to know. I acted like everything was fine, but it freaked me out a little. I feel horrible that it happened. It does not change how I feel about him, but why did he wait so long to tell me and will he be ok having sex? I really didn’t say anything when he told me. What should I say, I don’t want to upset him.
– S.

Dear S.,
Sexual abuse is not an easy topic to discuss. It took a lot of courage for him to share something that personal. I don’t think he waited too long at all. He waited until he was ready and felt secure enough within the relationship. He trusts you and knows how much you care for him.

Your reaction was perfectly normal. Hearing something like this can bring up all sorts of thoughts and emotions. It’s ok to take time to process. When you are ready, reassure him that it does not change the way you feel. It was something that he had no control over and it does not change who he is. Be supportive and give him opportunities to discuss if he wants or needs to.

You also asked if he will be ok having sex. I don’t know the answer to that, but he does. Have a conversation about sex. Then you can see how he feels because only he knows what is right for him. Make sure you’re both comfortable with anything that happens. Anytime you’re taking a relationship to another level there should be a conversation. If it’s too uncomfortable to talk about that’s a sign to wait.

Thank you for being brave and sending in your question.

Our Favorites November

Hello November!

Thanksgiving coming up reminds me to be thankful. Sometimes I need reminders to stop and appreciate life.

Do you find yourself needing a reminder to be thankful?

It doesn’t take much thought to complain. It’s actually pretty easy to talk about the things that piss you off. Let’s face it. Life doesn’t always go the way we plan or want, but there is always a reason to be thankful. Finding those “thankfuls” may not always be easy, but it’s worth it.

Everyone has SOMETHING to be thankful for, big or small. Some of you may not agree, but I guarantee you it is true. No matter what you are going through, there is something.

Did you take a breath today? Yes! There you go something to be thankful for.

Recognizing even the tiniest thing is important. Gratitude is good for you!

My hope for you (and for myself) is that we take a moment every day to be grateful.

Time to get started.
Veronica

Here are some of the things we’re thankful for.

Dear Hope: Will My Friends Understand My Crush

Dear Hope,dating
I have a crush on a girl at my school and I think she likes me too. We started talking when our teacher partnered us up for a project. I have no one to talk to about this, because I don’t think my friends will understand. I’m black and she’s Hispanic. I don’t care, but they’re always saying that they would only date black girls. I don’t agree, but it still has me questioning it. What will everyone think? Do you think it’s ok?
– Different

Dear Different,
It’s exciting you have a crush. Double exciting that she might like you too. That is what matters.

If you like this girl, go for it.

This is not your friend’s decision. It is YOUR decision. As an individual, you get to choose who you date.

I don’t how your friends will react, but don’t assume they will have a problem with it. Let them know you like her just like you would tell them about anyone else. If they’re good friends they will be supportive.

Healthy relationships are built from attraction, trust, honesty, respect and support for one another. They are not about skin color, background or friends approval.

Decide what is right for you. Don’t be influenced by someone else’s preference.

Thank you for being brave and sending in your question.

Our Favorites October

Let me start off by saying a great BIG THANK YOU!

Thank you for all of the birthday wishes. It made my day so special!

Now on to October.

Happy October! We hope it’s been faBOOlous so far!

We love this time of year! We have to admit we are big fans of Halloween. We love the tricks and treats, dressing up, and eating candy. What’s better than that?

As the daughter (Gabriella) I grew up getting to wear tons of DIY costumes made by my mom (Veronica). Most of them worked, but sometimes they just made us laugh. When I was four I was an unmovable butterfly. That’s right. Unmovable. The costume was so big and stiff I could hardly walk and definitely couldn’t move my arms. Hey, it was still cute.
Lots of love,
Gabriella

Dear Hope: Scared to Ask Her Out

Dear Hope,Summer Party
I want to ask this girl to a pool party. The party is in a few weeks, but I’m scared to ask her. We have only been hanging out since May. She is super cool and we have a lot of fun together. How can I stop freaking out and ask her.
– B

Dear B,
Take a breath and remember she is a person just like you. She is not some big scary dragon that will set you on fire.

Why are you freaking out? Because she might say no? Well, what if she does?

Think about that for a minute. What if she says no? It won’t ruin your life. You might feel awkward for a little while, but it will pass. You said she is “super cool” so I don’t think she would be rude about it.

BUT WAIT! She might say yes!

So take another deep breath and figure out what you want to say. Keep it casual. “There’s a party next week I was wondering if you wanted to go.”

The next time you’re hanging out, breath (yet again) and ask her. You can do this. If you never ask, you will never know.

You’ve got this!

Thank you for being brave and sending in your question.

For fun we asked everyone to tell us their favorite ice cream flavor.

We thought we would share some of them with you (and our favorites too).
