Dear Hope: Is It Prom Time Already?

Prom

Dear Hope,

I’m a senior in high school and we are having a prom at the end of April.  I have been hearing girls talking about buying their dresses and what they have to do.  It seems early to me to start doing stuff, but idk should I be starting to do things already?  I don’t have a lot of money to spend, but I do want to make this a special night for me and my boyfriend I would love any advice.

Dear Prom Princess,

You still have lots of time to prepare for prom, but some girls do start early.  Here is a link to a prom checklist; it will give you an idea of what some people do. http://modernprom.blogspot.com/2013/01/prom-checklist.html  You do not have to follow this, but it gives you an idea.  Make your own list and figure out what works for you and what you want your timeline to be. There is no right way to do it.

It does not need to take a lot of money to go to prom.  Figure out a budget of what you can spend and make a list of what you need.

Dress:  You can find dresses under a hundred dollars here are a few. http://www.seventeen.com/parties/prom/hottest-under-100-prom-dresses?click=main_sr#slide-1

Makeup:  You can go to the mall and have it done for free at the makeup counter or watch “do it yourself” videos on YouTube to learn how to do prom looks.  You can use all drugstore makeup to keep the cost down.

Nails:  Get together with friends and do each other’s nails.  You can each bring different colors, you will have more choices and it won’t cost any more.

Dinner:  If you want to go to dinner, but cannot afford it go and share appetizers to cut down the cost.

Limo:  This is not necessary, but if you want to do this, try getting together a group and split the cost because the more people in the limo, the less it will be per person.

I’m sure there are others things, but here are some to get you started.

No matter how much you spend or what you do, the goal is to have a great time and make memories to remember.  Memories and fun experiences are not only free, but are what the night is really about.
