Dear Hope: I want to be an artist
All my life I have known what I want to do. ART! I want to be an artist and go to art school, but my parents don’t like that idea. They want me to go to “real” college to get a “practical” job. Art is my dream, but now I don’t know if I should go for it. Help!
Harriet Tubman once said: “Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world”. I think that pretty much sums it up. It’s hard for parents because your dreams are not the same as theirs. They know what the “real” world is like and how hard it can be when you don’t have a “practical” job. But like Harriet Tubman said you have the strength within you. You can make all your dreams become reality. Talk to your parents and let them know your plans. Explain to them how hard you will work on fulfilling your dreams. Ask them for their support, because you need people to cheer you on through this.
